C ha Min-young explores material and emotional scenes that exist in reality, but are only visible through open cracks and holes. Through Min-young’s work, one can encounter a new world in the hole of a vent pipe, or crevice of an opened bag. The world is larger than the object that contains it, and is a place where the 'familiar' and 'unfamiliar' coexist. Min-young holds a BFA and MFA in Printmaking, and a PhD in Film and Digital media, all from Hongik University, Seoul. Selected solo exhibitions include Inter-object: Gap of coexistence at Gallery We, Gyeonggido (2021); Moving Suitcase: The stage of Topophilia at Tom N Toms Cheongdom, Seoul (2019); Modern City-Space of Flows at PlanB project space, Seoul (2018); Cha Min Young Solo Exhibition at ART DUBAI (2009); Aimless Escape at Shanghai Duolan Museum of Modern Art (2006). Min-young was a finalist for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2016 and 2018, and her work is held in public collections in South Korea, France, the UK and Japan.
