A visceral riot of intense colour, Ed Raybould creates arresting paintings inspired by 1970s Italian film. Amid swathes of saturated, burning reds, expressive brushstrokes leap across the canvas, conveying movement and energy through aggressive mark-making and layering. Furthermore, ghostly hollow figures dance through the composition, creating a dreamlike, surreal landscape.

Crimson Apparition I & II was inspired from dario argento’s film ‘Suspiria’. Influenced by the likes of Rothko’s and Peter Doig’s application of colour and paint to create an affect. The mass of vibrant colours together with the unnatural bodies of the ghostly-like figures give an overpowering intensity and supernatural twist to the composition.
