The girl is surrounded by Marigolds. In India, Marigolds are also known as the “flower of the soul”. They hold the highest honor in all Hindu festivals and religious ceremonies. They symbolize renunciation and are offered to God as a symbol of surrender. They also symbolize auspiciousness, positive energy, brightness, and happiness.
Marigolds come in different colours. Each colour represents a different energy. The softer Orange (saffron) is a sacred colour. Bright orange represents courage and sacrifice, and yellow represents sanctity.
By being surrounded by marigold flowers all around her – the girl in the painting is channelling as well as representing all these beautiful energies.
The white dove is a universal messenger of love and peace. This gives the viewer a further insight into the girl’s dreams.
Purple calla lillies signify passion. The artist feels that passion, as represented by the lillies, tie together the strength, purpose, and intention of the dreaming girl.
