About Katya

Moscow-born and London-based artist Katya Shkolnik started her artistic career in 2007.
Shkolnik’s degree in Nuclear Physics influences the artist’s vision and approach. Katya Shkolnik regards reality as a projection of multi-dimensional space. Using the medium of photography, she transforms information collected by the matrix of a digital camera to demonstrate different projections of a given subject in an attempt to expose its essence. She also works with acrylics and watercolour. Her work has been exhibited at The State Museum of Fine Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2011, 2015), Moscow Museum of Modern Art (2014). She was also a participant in the START Art Fair 2018 & 2019, Scope Miami Beach 2017.
In her words “My mediums are photography, acrylic and watercolour. I consider the camera as one of an artist’s tools among others for drawing, painting, making collages, and ordering compositions. Art for me is a way to share my vision of reality, a way to channel it into a tangible object. I regard reality as a projection of more complex multi-dimensional space. Playing with the information collected by the matrix of a digital camera I demonstrate different projection of a given subject in an attempt to expose its essence and find traces of this complex universe. I am drawn to large-scale objects and most of my pictures are destined to be large.”
Katya was commissioned to produce 5 art calendars (2009-2013), photography book Colors of Jazz (2010), illustrations for the book Identifying The Woman, (2016). Her works are in private collections and public spaces in CIS Republics, USA, Europe, Canada, Malaysia, Barbados, UAE and so on.
