Curator's Eye

The contrast between strict, mathematical precision and a joyful palette of bold block colours gives Emily Thomas’ sculptures a unique aesthetic identity. Using her work to explore the importance of architecture and its impact on societies, Thomas’ geometric, structural formations are deeply rooted in their sense of spatiality.

Private, Keep In is an abstract representation of postmodernist architecture. I made this sculpture during my initial research of the boundaries between interior and exterior space. I studied the use of transparent architectural materials such as glassand two-way mirror and wrote a text exploring the presence of these materials in buildings owned by capitalist institutions. I am still exploring this subject now, as the use of these materials are becoming increasingly more common in modern architectural designs.
