Quarry considers the geological time in relation to personal time and explores our inability to truly grapple with the scale and lifetime of the Earth. Billions of years are deposited in a strata - faults and folds, weathering and erosions leave traces on geological layers. These records help us trace back and understand the changes of the landscape that occurred over time. It allows us an observation of the past and present, the distortion and gaps between them. ‘Gap’ has always been an important idea and element in my work. Quarry focuses on ‘unconformity’, gaps in the rock records caused by erosion or period of non-deposition, a geological term for ‘missing time’.
