Kim Jaenam presents two contrasting bodies of work that are in search of the sublime. In the first instance, Jaenam achieves this through highly detailed, charcoal renderings of crashing waves that are suspended in a brief moment of silence. However, there is an underlying tension to these monochrome works, as the viewer knows it is only their gaze that holds this moment in place. In the second series of work, Jaenam utilises the simplicity and structural integrity of geometric forms to achieve sublimity. A versatile artist who makes strongly atmospheric works.
