Curator's Eye

Tae Eun Ahn uses paint almost as a sculptural tool in these masterful examples of Korean abstraction. There is a distinctly textural quality to the application of the paint, as thick globules of acrylic protrude from the canvas, allowing refracted light to dance off each brushstroke. Indentations from where brushes have once been, leave petal-like tessellations that flourish across each canvas. Furthermore, the frequent use of white paint further emphasizes the illuminated intensity of the colour palette. Her meditative art is increasingly being exhibited around the world in Asia, Europe and the USA; and her work has strong institutional backing.
