Curator's Eye

A visceral riot of intense colour, Ed Raybould creates arresting paintings inspired by 1970s Italian film. Amid swathes of saturated, burning reds, expressive brushstrokes leap across the canvas, conveying movement and energy through aggressive mark-making and layering. Furthermore, ghostly hollow figures dance through the composition, creating a dreamlike, surreal landscape.

Inspired by British subculture, this painting creates a utopian mirage of unseen Britain. On my walks through a small local park in London, I became fascinated by the unseen subcultures of Britain I came across; the weekend warriors and football hooligans, as well as the elderly man that repeated the same dog walk his whole life watching the community go by.
